THE SKINNY
The last two times the Cowboys played at FedEx Field, they lost, marking the first time Washington has beaten Dallas in consecutive home games since 1997. The Redskins hold a one-game lead over the Cowboys in games played in the nation’s capital, winning 25 games to Dallas’ 24. The last time Washington won three home games in a row against the Cowboys was 1995-97, and the Redskins’ longest home winning streak over the Cowboys is five straight, dating back to 1972-75, and includes beating them in the 1972 NFC title game.

MEMORY LANE
When the Cowboys faced the Redskins at RFK in the 1983 season opener on Monday night, a win seemed like a tall order. The previous year, the Redskins had beaten the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game to advance to Super Bowl XVII. This game didn’t start much differently, as the Redskins jumped to a 23-3 halftime lead. Washington’s defense shut down the Cowboys offense, limiting it to only 85 first-half yards despite a 77-yard run by running back Tony Dorsett. The second half was a far different story. Cowboys quarterback Danny White connected with receiver Tony Hill for two touchdowns in the first nine minutes to narrow the deficit to 23-17. After a missed Washington field goal, the Cowboys drove for another touchdown, taking a 24-23 lead with 2:20 remaining in the game. The Cowboys defense then stepped up, intercepting a Joe Theismann pass to set up White’s third touchdown pass for a 31-23 lead. Theismann would throw a touchdown pass with 10 seconds left, but that, in the days before two-point conversions were allowed, was too little, too late, the Cowboys holding on for a 31-30 victory.
