| Entering the final month of the season, the Bucs not only looked primed for the playoffs, but a home-field advantage was within reach. But a 9-3 record turned into four straight losses. At 9-7, the Bucs not only missed the playoffs but let head coach Jon Gruden go after the season. The Bucs have made a huge overhaul in 2009, starting with new head coach Raheem Morris. His job will be to restore that defense, but he also has a big question at quarterback. The Bucs drafted Josh Freeman in the first round but could start out the season with veteran Byron Leftwich.

| 2009 Headliners: |
TE Kellen Winslow - For the third time in his career, both college and pro, the tight end will try a different shade of orange. Traded in the off-season from Cleveland, Winslow will get the chance to showcase his talents in the Sunshine State again. |
WR Antonio Bryant - The former Cowboys receiver has turned out a pretty solid career and might have found a permanent spot in Tampa, where had career-highs in receptions (83), receiving yards (1,248) and touchdowns (seven). |
QB Josh Freeman - The Bucs took a chance on the former Kansas State quarterback, who quickly rose up the draft boards and into the first round. While he may not be ready to start, he will likely push Leftwich for the starting job early in training camp. |
