Entering the final month of 2008, the Chargers were headed for the unthinkable. At 4-8, arguably the league's most talented team was on pace to miss the playoffs - a fate that would've almost certainly cost Norv Turner his job.
Instead, the Chargers ripped off four straight wins to finish 8-8 and win the AFC West. They upset the Colts in overtime in the wild-card round before losing to eventual Super Bowl champ Pittsburgh the following week.
Led by a cast of stars (Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson, Shawne Merriman), San Diego should be an AFC contender once again. The Cowboys last faced the Chargers in 2005, when Aaron Glenn's interception in the end zone sealed a 28-24 win in the final minute.

| 2009 Headliners: |
QB Philip Rivers - Growing into one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks, even without an elite wide receiver. |
RB LaDainian Tomlinson - Might have lost a step, but the future Hall-of-Famer remains a dangerous all-around back. |
LB Shawne Merriman - Missed 2008 with a knee injury; if healthy, his pass rush provides a different dimension for the Chargers' defense. |
