| The Broncos were sitting at 8-5 with three games to play and appeared to have the AFC West locked up. But three straight losses, including a pivotal setback to the Chargers, not only ended the Broncos' season, but head coach Mike Shanahan's run as Denver's head coach. The franchise made sweeping changes in the off-season. First the addition of new head coach Josh McDaniels, and then the trade, sending quarterback Jay Cutler to Chicago for Kyle Orton and draft picks. Orton should be the starter in Denver, but for how long is a question. Undoubtedly, it will be a new-look Broncos in 2009. |
| 2009 Headliners: |
WR Brandon Marshall - Like Shanahan and Cutler, is Marshall next to go? He isn't happy and wants a new contract and has even asked for a trade. Still, it sounds like he's prepared to go to camp, and that's a good thing for the Broncos. Marshall had 104 catches last year. |
RB Knowshon Moreno - Could this rookie tailback be the next in line among great Broncos backs? Possibly, but it will be a different offense that produced so many 1,000-yard rushers. Last year, the Broncos had eight different starting backs because of injuries. Maybe Moreno restores some stability at the position. |
OT Ryan Clady - Living proof that offensive tackles just aren't destined to win the Rookie of the Year award. It's hard for any first-year player to duplicate what Clady did last season, giving up just a half-sack in 16 starts. Clady looks the part as the NFL's next great left tackle. |
