Considering the hell Falcons fans went through in 2007, with the Michael Vick controversy and head coach Bobby Petrino abandoning the team mid-season, 2008 was well-deserved. The Falcons rebounded to their best record since 2004. In the 43-year history of the franchise the Falcons have never posted consecutive winning seasons. Could that be about to change?
Another year under Matt Ryan's belt should help. From his first game as a rookie last season he showed a good connection with deep-threat receiver Roddy White, and the addition of a Hall of Fame tight end can only help. Michael Turner ran strong in his first year as a featured back, and an emphasis on grinding out games could serve to protect Ryan from some continued growing pains.

| 2009 Headliners: |
QB Matt Ryan - He started all 16 games and posted a nice, efficient 87.7 rating with 3,440 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was only sacked 17 times in 2008. |
RB Michael Turner - After playing in first four years in the shadow of LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego, Turner rushed for 1,669 yards and 17 scores a year ago. He's 5-10, 256 pounds with breakaway speed. |
TE Tony Gonzalez - A 12-year pro who keeps getting better with time, Gonzalez just posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with over 95 catches in both for a Chiefs team that suffered spotty quarterback play. |
