WR Beasley With Apparent Change Of Heart; Headed Back
OXNARD, Calif. – The window on this team may or may not be closing, but Jason Garrett’s front door remains open, at least just enough for Cole Beasley to walk back in.
Two days after the rookie wide receiver from SMU informed Garrett and the team he wanted to quit because as the head coach said, his “heart wasn’t in it,” Beasley has decided to return to the squad.
He left for Dallas on Thursday but arrived back in California Sunday morning. Beasley is eligible to practice Sunday for the intrasquad scrimmage.
Beasley was moved to Exempt / Left Squad list Thursday night to create roster spots for the two veteran guards – Derrick Dockery and Daniel Loper.
To make room for Beasley this time, the Cowboys had to waive rookie linebacker Aston Whiteside from Abilene Christian.
The Cowboys have also signed rookie wide receiver David Little, who participated in the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. Little, a Garland, Texas product, played at Division II Midwestern State. The club also brought in Javarris Williams, a running back from Tennessee State.
Those two players would not be able to practice right away because of CBA rules that require a three-day window for all free-agent signings.
The Cowboys do need some serious help at WR, especially with Miles Austin suffering a tweaked hamstring and Saalim Hakim out for 7-10 days with a broken finger.
