Jenkins Will Travel With Team, But Still Doesn’t Know Status
IRVING, Texas – Cornerback Mike Jenkins is close enough to play that the Cowboys will bring him to New York, though they have yet to make an official determination of whether he will play.
Players who have officially been ruled out typically do not travel to away games, so the Cowboys are leaving open the possibility that Jenkins could be on the field against the Giants. He could be listed as doubtful or questionable on the final injury report, to be released Tuesday.
“I’m traveling,” Jenkins said Monday, following the team’s last full practice in preparation for the season opener. “But I don’t really know. I’m going to try to go out and warm up, and we’ll see.”
Following offseason shoulder surgery, Jenkins only returned to practice with the team on Sunday, going through individual drills. On Monday, he was listed as having limited participation for the second straight day. He had been scheduled to work out in pads on Saturday, but could not work out because he was experiencing a migraine. Jenkins still hasn’t taken part in any contact drills since New Year’s Day.
When he finally does return, there’s some question of where Jenkins will play. He said he understands the responsibilities of playing in the slot and has been watching Orlando Scandrick in practice, preparing himself to play there if called upon.
