Lee, Jones Officially Moved To IR; Peprah, LB Ernie Sims Signed
The Cowboys have filled their roster spots with a pair of veteran players in safety Charlie Peprah and linebacker Ernie Sims, a former Top 10 draft pick of the Lions back in 2006.
The biggest of news involves Lee of course. The Cowboys will lose their leading tackler and defensive leader to a toe injury that needs surgery to repair torn ligaments. Lee is expected to have the surgery next Tuesday.
Jones has a left knee sprain with some partially torn ligaments that kept him out of two of the last three games. The Cowboys will stick with veteran Brian Moorman for the rest of the season as the punter and holder.
As for the new guys, Peprah started 25 games the last two seasons for the Packers, including 14 during Green Bay’s Super Bowl run in 2010 that ended with a victory over Pittsburgh at Cowboys Stadium. Peprah is from nearby Plano, Texas but had a knee injury this offseason that prevented him from signing with other teams.
Sims spent last season with the Colts and started four of 13 games played. He had 32 tackles in Indy, following a 55-tackle season with the Eagles. He started his career with the Lions but never lived up to the expectations of being a first-round pick.
Sims is expected to add some depth in the middle where Dan Connor will likely take over Lee’s starting duties. Orie Lemon could have more of a defensive role inside, as could versatile Alex Albright, who is more of an outside backer and pass-rusher.
