Broaddus: Game Balls To Romo, Spencer and DeCamillis
Offensive Game Ball: Tony Romo
When head coach Jason Garrett and this offense needed him the most, Romo was at his best. This is one of those games where Romo was more about beating Philadelphia with his head than just with his skills. His ability to read what the Eagles were doing coverage-wise was the reason for the Cowboys’ success in the second half. The throw to Miles Austin was all about Romo’s skill, but the throw to Dez Bryant was his ability to read the coverage and Bryant doing a much better job of keeping his route wide to give Romo the opportunity to fit the ball in there for the go-ahead touchdown. It was a throw that they missed last week against the Falcons, but were able to connect with in this game at a key time.
Defensive Game Ball: Anthony Spencer
For weeks I have questioned when Spencer would make a sack that would kill a game for this defense. There were times when I felt like he was clearly better than the offensive tackles he was going against, but he seemed to come up short in the way he played. This week, it was a different story and he was able to deliver. Spencer was dominant, and like Romo, when this team needed him the most, he was able to beat his man, knocking the ball out of Nick Foles’ hands and creating a much-needed turnover and points as well. Spencer was a factor the entire game and the more the Eagles focused on him, the better he played. For that, he gets my game ball.
Special Teams: Joe DeCamillis
As many problems as the Cowboys’ third phase has had this season, I have to give my special teams game ball to Joe DeCamillis for the job that his units were able to do today. The Cowboys came into the game as one of the best in the league when it came to covering punts, and in this game, they once again held an opponent to less than five yards total on returns. On the flip side, DeCamillis was able to shake Dwayne Harris loose for a huge play in the second half on a 78-yard return for a touchdown. Today, the special teams battle was won by DeCamillis and his units.
