Cowboys Sign Another; Two Draft Choices Still Unsigned;
IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys have just two draft picks left to sign after locking up third-round pick J.J. Wilcox to a four-year deal on Wednesday.
Wilcox, the 80th overall pick, is expected to compete for the starting safety position along with Matt Johnson and Will Allen.
Details of the contract were not revealed, but sources say the deal is very similar to the contract Cardinals cornerback Jamell Fleming signed last year as the 80th pick. Fleming got a four-year, $2.73 million with $586,000 guaranteed.
Wilcox becomes the second third-round pick to sign this week, joining wide receiver Terrance Williams, who also signed his four-year deal on Tuesday. Both contracts were officially turned into the NFL league office before the end of Wednesday’s business day.
The Cowboys have relatively worked backwards in signing these picks, starting with sixth-round pick DeVonte Holloman before the first OTA practice. That week, the Cowboys also inked deals with fifth-rounder Joseph Randle and then fourth-round cornerback B.W. Webb.
This pattern suggests Escobar will likely be next, followed by a deal for Frederick, who will receive a five-year contract because of his first-round status. Read
