Cowboys Grab A Corner From Lions’ Practice Squad
IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys have plucked cornerback Chris Greenwood from the Lions’ practice squad and will bring him on to the 53-man roster.
Greenwood, a fifth-round pick by the Lions in 2012, was one of the Cowboys’ 30 pre-draft visits last season. The 6-1 corner, who went to Division-III Albion College, was released by the Lions a week before the regular season this year and signed back on to their practice squad.
"We felt like size is an important trait at the corner position, and he certainly has that," said head coach Jason Garrett. "He has athletic ability. Hes just a guy we've had our eye on for a while and we were looking for an opportunity to sign a big, young corner who we feel can develop and have a role on our football team and he fit the bill, so we went ahead and made that decision."
He will take the spot of Anthony Spencer, whose knee injury will require microfracture surgery that will put him on injured reserve.
The Cowboys have rolled with just four cornerbacks through the first three weeks of the season, despite a shoulder injury that Morris Claiborne’s played through.
