Carr & Teammates Throw Punches For Charity Event
PLANO – Brandon Carr has been one of the more vocal defensive players this offseason when it comes to his side of the ball bouncing back from a rough 2013 season.
With the comments about himself and the defense ready to “take over the league” this year, it certainly seems like Carr is ready to come out swinging this year.
Maybe Wednesday’s charity event was just the start of that. Carr was among three Cowboys players who raised more than $2,500 for the Gatehouse of Grapevine in a one-hour boxing workout class.
Carr, along with running back Lance Dunbar and tight end James Hanna, took part in the “Empower Hour” charity boxing cardio class. The event also allowed fans to participate right along with the players at the TITLE Boxing Club of Plano.
Carr said he actually had some experience with the workout, dating back to his playing day in Kansas City.
“My last two years there in the summer times I actually took kickboxing and boxing class,” Carr said on “The Fan” 105.3 FM. “I’m pretty fond of it. It’s a pretty good workout. You have to get prepared for it.”
The fans who participated made a $100 donation to the Gatehouse, which is a supportive community where women and children in crisis can discover a new path for permanent change. Set to open this fall, the Gatehouse will house up to 96 families and includes a community/conference center, in-neighborhood counseling centers, general store, walking trails and commercial space. The Gatehouse is unique by allowing members to stay up to two and a half years depending on their individually tailored program.
"TITLE Boxing Club of Plano is honored to host the Empower Hour, benefiting The Gatehouse community for women and children seeking refuge from crisis situations,” said Julie Menhart, owner of TITLE Boxing Club of North Dallas and Plano. “The opportunity to partner with the Dallas Cowboys Women’s Association and help support their relationship with The Gatehouse was something my husband Bob and I felt passionate about. The Gatehouse will be a wonderful oasis to those in need and we plan to volunteer with their community once they are open." Read
