Rookie Watch: With 2 Undrafted QBs On Roster, Showers Has Opportunity

(Editor's Note: With the offseason practices now complete, the Cowboys will take some downtime before departing for training camp on July 28. Until then, let's focus on some of the more unknown rookies on this team, fighting for a roster spot. Today's featured player is quarterback Jameill Showers.)

Name: Jameill Showers
Position: Quarterback
College: UTEP
Height/Weight: 6-2 / 230

Acquired: Undrafted Free Agent

Collegiate Career: After playing 12 games at Texas A&M, Showers transferred to UTEP, where he started 21 games for the Miners. He helped the school snap a four-year bowl drought as a senior in 2014. Showers started all 13 games for UTEP last year, completing 55.6 percent of his passes for 1,858 yards, 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 312 yards and four scores, totaling 2,170 yards of total offense.[embeddedad0]

Did You Know?Showers participated in two Pro Days, practicing for NFL scouts at both UTEP and Texas A&M.

2015 Outlook:If there's one team that won't overlook an undrafted rookie quarterback, it should be this one. Two of the three on the roster were not picked, including Romo, who is now the face of the franchise. That's not to say the Cowboys are expecting Showers to be either Romo or Vaughan, but he'll get the chance to prove himself. Romo won't play a ton of snaps in the preseason. Showers has to prove he can outplay Vaughan, who has a one-year head start in this offense.

Scout's Take:

Doesn't have ideal height, but has plenty of arm talent. Shows accuracy on the move and under duress. Plays with poise. Will surprise you with his touch underneath and down the field. Judgement to make the right decision. Made some clutch throws in college to lead his team to victory.  – Bryan Broaddus
