FRISCO, Texas – Safe to say cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Mo Claiborne are looking forward to a fifth season on the Cowboys' defense.
"We both have chips on our shoulders," Carr said Tuesday at Reliant's Fifth Annual Home Run Derby to Benefit Salvation Army, held at Frisco RoughRiders Dr. Pepper Ballpark. "We have some unfinished business right now."
It's not hard to guess why. Carr has dealt with speculation about his contract and his future in Dallas the last two offseasons. Claiborne has battled injuries his first four NFL seasons.
Here's another motivated player in the secondary: Orlando Scandrick, who's returning from the ACL and MCL he suffered in training camp last August that cost him the entire 2015 season.
Scandrick's teammates watched him carted off the practice field in Oxnard, Calif. He has been working diligently toward his eventual return ever since.
"He's definitely focused," Carr said. "He has that chip on his shoulder once again. We look forward to him just to keep rehabbing and getting stronger and stronger each day."
Last month at the start of the voluntary offseason program, Scandrick said he expects to be ready for training camp, which means the Cowboys likely will be deliberate with his activity in the upcoming OTAs and minicamp.
But he has been making steady progress the last nine months, and his teammates can see he's inching closer to full activity.
"Well, he's back on the field, so he's back to chirping," Carr said. "So that's great. We need that."
