Jerry Jones: Surgery For Barry Church; Leary’s Status; More Injury Updates
FRISCO, Texas – Safety Barry Church will have surgery on his fractured forearm, but the procedure won’t affect his timetable for a return, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan.
“Believe it or not it doesn’t change his timeline,” Jones said. “It’s still four to five weeks.”
Jones said cornerback Morris Claiborne’s recovery time for his groin injury also remains the same. Last week, Jones gave a rough estimate of anywhere from a month to six weeks for Claiborne’s return.
Both starting defensive backs were inactive in last Sunday’s 35-10 win over the Cleveland Browns. J.J. Wilcox started at strong safety for Church, and Orlando Scandrick played opposite Brandon Carr in Claiborne’s absence, with rookie Anthony Brown moving outside when Scandrick played the slot in sub-packages.
Starting right guard Ronald Leary left the game with a head injury, and although there’s “nothing definitive” yet about his status for this Sunday’s trip to Pittsburgh, Jones said, “We feel good about him playing this week.” Read
