Cowboys Add Safety Depth Week Before Draft, Sign Veteran Robert Blanton
FRISCO, Texas – The Cowboys have added depth to a position of need a week before the draft, signing five-year veteran safety Robert Blanton.
A fifth-round pick by Minnesota in 2012, Blanton played four years with the Vikings, making 17 starts. He had 147 tackles, 5 pass breakups and an interception.
Blanton signed with the Buffalo Bills last year and played 10 games (two starts) in 2016, producing 27 tackles. He also has been a regular special teams contributor during his career.
Safety became a thin position in March when starting strong safety Barry Church and his primary backup J.J. Wilcox signed free agent deals with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, respectively.
The Cowboys still could look to address safety in the draft next week. The team has seven total picks, including No. 28 in the first round. Read
