Mailbag: Dez's Success Against Elite CBs? Playing 3 Games In 11 Days?

ED RIDGEWAYMICKLETON, NJ
Name some elite cornerbacks that have been "torched" by Dez Bryant.

Bryan: He played well against Janoris Jenkins when he was with the St. Louis Rams. Was not bad against Xavier Rhodes and Josh Norman in 2016. Has had some good battles with Richard Sherman back in the day. If your point is to discredit Bryant's career -- I am sorry but you're barking up the wrong tree with me.

David: He had a great day against Xavier Rhodes last December, and he got the better of Josh Norman in their second meeting last year. On top of that, he's had success against the likes of Richard Sherman in the past. But in all honesty, that conversation doesn't interest me. If an opponent can limit Dez using an elite cornerback, so be it. The design of their offense opens up for guys like Ezekiel Elliott, Cole Beasley and Jason Witten to make plays if someone is focusing too much on Dez. So it's not something I typically worry about.

Dallas plays the Eagles, Chargers, and Redskins between Nov 19 - 30. Last year, they did the same type of schedule and by the time the third game came around (Vikings), they seemed dead. Are you worried the same will happen this year, especially since it ends with a divisional game?

Bryan: The season is a grind and the league does these teams no favors with the way they schedule games. It makes you wonder if they really care about the players at all? There is really nothing the team can do about it unless they ask the league not to put them on the Thanksgiving Day game each season.

David: The NFL is going to say it cares about player safety, and then it is going to make all of its teams play on short rest at least once per season. That's just the way things work these days. It's not an ideal situation, but Jason Garrett is typically pretty good at getting his teams to buy in and focus on overcoming tough situations. And honestly, I'm not sure the struggles against the Vikings were about the Cowboys being tired, so much as a really solid defense playing in primetime at home. It's hard to win in the NFL, regardless of how much rest you have.
