Mailbag: Prioritizing The Safety Position? Deepest Positions In The 2018 Draft?

MORICE WELLINGTON III

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA

If Byron Jones is put at cornerback for the 2018 season, would the safety spot become the No. 1 priority for Dallas to address defensively?

Bryan: I don't believe so. Need to see if Kris Richard is interested in moving some other guys around. Maybe when he was at Seattle he viewed Awuzie as a safety or thought differently about Xavier Woods? Until they get those meetings out of the way locking in on priorities are really up in the air.

Rob: No, because I think this secondary has enough versatility to move pieces around. When you think about it, that's key because of how offenses have evolved. We've seen Xavier Woods and Chidobe Awuzie play some corner and safety. And they might ultimate decide Kavon Frazier is ready for a starting role after he took on more snaps late in the season.

Which position is the deepest in this year's draft? Is there a particular position where we could spend a mid-round pick and still get an immediate contributor?

Bryan: Deep positions: Running back, wide receiver, defensive tackle (one technique), tight end and cornerback. I like what you can get from these groups throughout the draft no matter where you select.

Rob:I defer to Bryan, who spends roughly 23 hours, 30 minutes a day grinding on prospect tape. Interesting that linebacker isn't among that deep group. It's a spot the Cowboys might have to address early for depth – and perhaps really early depending on Anthony Hitchens' future in free agency.
