Romo’s Heartfelt Thank-You Letter To Witten: “You Have Set The Standard”
FRISCO, Texas – Last April, Jason Witten took a few days to organize his thoughts before he posted an emotional farewell letter to Tony Romo on social media, wishing the veteran quarterback well in his move to the broadcasting booth.
Who would’ve guessed that Romo would return the favor to Witten just over a year later?
In a sincere message to his good friend and longtime teammate, Romo called Witten “the best player I ever played with” and a man who has “set the standard for every player and coach who walks through the Cowboys facility.”
Witten announced his retirement from the NFL last Thursday as he transitions – like Romo at CBS – to an announcer’s role for ESPN and Monday Night Football.
As Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett did last Thursday, Romo recounted the famous Y-Option pass to Witten that helped lift the Cowboys to a thrilling divisional-round win over the Detroit Lions in January 2015.
“The secret to the play was trusting the best player to be the best player…and he was,” Romo wrote.
