3 Questions: Broaddus On Bernadeau, Claiborne, KC Noise

Posted Sep 10, 2013

IRVING, Texas – Football analyst Bryan Broaddus takes a break from his film preparation of the Chiefs to answer three pressing questions on the status of Brian Waters and how it might affect Mackenzy Bernadeau, the injuries to Morris Claiborne and what to expect this week with Kansas City’s crowd.

I know the Cowboys want Waters to play but if he’s not ready, did Bernadeau do well enough to get by another week?

Broaddus: The eyeball test would have you believe that Mackenzy Bernadeau did not play all that well against the Giants, but that wasn’t the case at all. The film actually told a different story, and if he had to start another week, that would not be an issue. The Chiefs play a 3-4 front, so he will be uncovered the majority of the game. This offense will need his bulk to help Travis Frederick with Dontari Poe, who can be a load inside.

Are you getting worried at all with the nagging injuries to Mo Claiborne?

Broaddus: I am worried with these injuries to Claiborne for one simple reason: if he doesn’t practice, he appears to struggle with his technique. Claiborne is not to the point in his career where he can miss time and expect to play well. He practiced last week in getting ready for the Giants but it didn’t make up for all the practices and games that he missed during training camp. Nobody completely feels well in the NFL right now, but it’s only going to get worse. If this shoulder and knee require Claiborne to have to miss practice time, they might as well get Orlando Scandrick ready to play because he will be of no use to this squad without those reps.

When it comes to outdoor stadiums, where does Arrowhead rank in terms of noise?

Broaddus: I have had my rear kicked in Arrowhead and it’s no fun. The noise starts with the last line of the National Anthem, “and the home of the….CHIEFS,” and it continues throughout the game until the final gun. The fans are all dressed in red, so that is all you see. It’s a never-ending battle on offense to have to deal with the constant noise because your offensive line cannot hear the quarterback at all and to make matters worse, they once again have the type of defense with pressure players who thrive in that type of atmosphere. Arrowhead ranks right up there with that bunch of nuts in Seattle.
