CowBuzz: Witten, Romo, Ware Serve Meals To Those In Need

Posted Nov 19, 2013

Dallas Cowboys players and families serve meals at The Salvation Army to those in need.

Earlier today, the Dallas Cowboys along with Cowboys’ partners UnitedHealthcare and Albertsons, served up the team’s annual “EARLY” Thanksgiving Day meal at The Salvation Army. The team split into two groups with the Dallas Cowboys Rookie Club and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders serving meals at The Salvation Army Mabee Social Service Center in Fort Worth. Veteran players and members of the Dallas Cowboys Women’s Association presented the meal at The Salvation Army Carr P. Collins Social Service Center in Dallas led by Mrs. Gene Jones and Charlotte Jones Anderson. Jason Witten brought his two sons to the event along with his wife. “As a player we’ve got a huge platform to give back, especially this time of year. It means a lot to me and I want it to mean a lot to my kids.” When asked what he tells his kids when he comes to an occasion like today Witten said, “You provide perspective of how important a meal is for a lot of these people and what it means really to give back.” Players served meals, sign autographs and even talked a little football with some of the guests.

The Cowboys partnership with The Salvation Army also served to kickoff a citywide volunteer initiative that honors the legacy of service of President John F. Kennedy. #JFKDAY is scheduled for November 23 and will see thousands of North Texas citizens giving back to the community and celebrating the spirit of generosity Kennedy stressed during his time in office.
