OXNARD, Calif. – Although wide receiver Dez Bryant
did participate in Sunday’s walk-through, it is still unclear whether or not Dez Bryant will be on the field for the Cowboys’ preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football.
Bryant tweaked his hamstring at the end of Saturday’s practice and was held out for precautionary reasons, but able to return Sunday morning, before the team departed for Oakland.
Bryant went out with the first team and caught a few passes while running routes at half speed. When the first team offense went into a three wide package Bryant, Cole Beasley and Kevin Ogletree served as the three receivers.
It sounds like the Cowboys plan to bring Bryant to Oakland Monday night and have him warm up with the team prior to the game. He will be a game-time decision depending on how his hamstring reacts to the warm-up.
With Miles Austin also out with a hamstring injury, the team may open the preseason without their top two receiving threats. If Bryant is unable to play then Sunday’s walkthrough may hint towards Ogletree and Beasley being the two starting receivers, with Andre Holmes also in the three-wide package.
Expect other young receivers such as Raymond Radway, Tim Benford and Dwayne Harris to get plenty of reps. It’s expected the Cowboys will hold out rookie Danny Coale, who has just returned to practice this week after missing nearly three months with a broken bone in his foot.
