Scandrick’s Broken Hand One Of Many Costly Injury For ’Boys

Posted Nov 22, 2012

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Dallas Cowboys had injury problems going into Thursday’s game against the Redskins. Dallas took the field without the likes of Sean Lee, DeMarco Murray, Jay Ratliff, Kevin Ogletree, Phil Costa, Tyron Smith and Ryan Cook, all prominent contributors to the team.

It only got worse on Thanksgiving.

Dallas may have had a number of self-inflicted wounds to put them down 28-3 at one point against the Redskins, but a few crucial injuries did not help. The Cowboys lost Miles Austin, Bruce Carter, Orlando Scandrick and Jason Hatcher in the Redskins game alone. They had to rely on a number of players to step up and play big roles as they attempted to mount a comeback.

The biggest blow could be to Scandrick, who suffered a broken hand and will undergo surgery on Friday. It’s an injury that could potentially end his season.

"Being optimistic, hopefully I'll be back," said Scandrick, who had his left hand wrapped all the way to his elbow. "If there is any way I can play, I will be back."

Without giving away too many other specifics, Garrett tried to address the injuries after the game.

“Yeah, we lost a number of guys in the ball game Thursday,” Garrett said. “Both on offense and on defense and different guys had to step up and that’s just the nature of the league. We will evaluate them (Friday). … Miles hurt his hip, Orlando hurt his wrist and hand, Bruce Carter hurt his elbow and Hatch went out. He got dinged a little bit at the end of the game.”

Austin left the game in the first quarter without making a single reception. After being stretched on the sideline, he went to the locker room. He came back on the field at one point, but never re-entered the game.

It is reported that he will receive an MRI on his hip flexor.

Carter was playing terrifically with nine tackles in the game before being injured in the third quarter.

Jerry Jones claimed that the injuries had little to do with the outcome of the game.

“Tonight, injury was not our issue,” Jones said. “Our issue was that we played a hot hand. They played well and then we helped it out with turnovers and didn’t play well early.
