Bryant Promising To Be Back In Time For Sept. 5 Opener At NY

Posted Aug 21, 2012

SAN DIEGO – After surviving a scare on Monday, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant says he’ll be back on the field in time for the games that count.

“I’m gonna be out there in New York,” Bryant said Tuesday. “You already know.”

Results on Bryant’s MRI were negative, revealing only patellar tendinitis, fatigue essentially, in his left knee. He did not practice against the Chargers on Tuesday, as the Cowboys wrapped up the California portion of training camp.

With Miles Austin and Jason Witten currently out with injuries of their own, the Cowboys can’t really afford any doubt of Bryant’s status. While head coach Jason Garrett didn’t make an official pronouncement of the receiver’s status for the Sept. 5 opener, the team is optimistic he’ll be ready.

“What he needs to do is get rehabbed, and we’ll take it day to day and see what his progress is coming back,” Garrett said. “It’s hard for us to project that much in the future, but we were pleased with what the result of the MRI was, and again, it’s a day to day rehab for him.”

Bryant has been banged up at several different points in his career, missing five games in two seasons, however, the Cowboys were impressed with the way he fought through a quad strain early last season to get back on the field after sitting out only one game.

That example of toughness is part of the reason Bryant is expecting he can be back from this bout tendinitis in only 15 days.

“It is a big term, and there’s a lot of versions of tendinitis, really, I guess, all over our bodies, and we just have to manage it,” Garrett said. “He’s going to live in that training room as much as he can over the next few days just to make sure he can bring that back and he can get back as quickly as possible.”
