IRVING, Texas - The Cowboys are expected to have a busy day at Valley Ranch on Wednesday.

While they are technically still under the salary cap, expect a few moves to clear some space so they can sign a couple of free agents.

Two veterans – linebacker Justin Durant and safety Will Allen – have all but agreed to terms on a contract. The Cowboys are likely finalizing the deals and seeing how they will fit under the tight cap space. Both players visited Valley Ranch on Monday.

Durant, a six-year veteran, had 103 tackles with a half-sack last year as an outside linebacker in the Lions’ 4-3 scheme. Before his two seasons in Detroit, Durant played four years with the Jaguars and has a total of 67 career starts.

Durant will likely compete for a starting job at strong-side linebacker, likely with Kyle Wilber, Alex Albright and Ernie Sims, who re-signed just last week.

Allen has played nine years, including the last three with the Steelers. Of the 133 games played in his career, Allen has just 33 starts.

The Cowboys have also had reported interest with guard Brandon Moore, a 10-year veteran who has spent his career with the Jets and was coached by Cowboys offensive coordinator Bill Callahan. Moore has started every game for the Jets in the last seven years.

But first the Cowboys must get some more salary cap space. To do that, they will likely restructure Kyle Orton’s contract in similar fashion to the other veteran deals they reworked two weeks ago to get under the cap. If needed, the Cowboys can also restructure the contract of guard Nate Livings.

The Cowboys will probably have to release a player as well on Wednesday to get under the cap.
