Eatman: Few Other Deserving Game Balls To Throw Around

Posted Nov 12, 2012

With each win, our football analyst Bryan Broaddus is quick to dish out some game balls and this week, Tony Romo and Anthony Spencer were awarded, along with special teams coach Joe DeCamillis.

But it was one of those wins that Jason Garrett is always talking about: winning in all three phases.

The Cowboys were able to do that and when it occurs, there are a few others deserving of praise. I thought I’d dish out a few more here as well.

Felix Jones – No player has seemingly received more criticism this year from the start of camp to now, but Jones keeps plugging away. It’s not pretty but Sunday he was effective. That touchdown catch of 11 yards was arguably his best play in recent  years when he avoided about six tacklers. He rushed for 71 yards (4.4 average) and had 22 more receiving yards. This team will be better with DeMarco Murray, but Jones  has been solid as a backup and had his best game Sunday.

Charlie Peprah – He didn’t have a huge impact in the game, but he made the start when the defense opened the game in nickel. He split times with Danny McCray at safety and made a couple of nice plays in coverage, including one where he upended Jeremy Maclin on a third-down pass. Peprah has started games in this league and has a veteran influence that could be beneficial if the Cowboys can make a run here in the second half of the season.

Doug Free – Someone on the offensive line needs to get some credit and I went back and watched the game and it was close, but I kept noticing Free holding his own on the outside. We talked a lot about his matchup with Eagles end Jason Babin. Not only did Babin not record a sack, but he wasn’t even listed on the defensive sheet for making any plays. Free was also used a lot on the move, pulling on sweeps and traps, something we haven’t seen him do as much this season.
