Kowalski Activated From PUP List; Expected To Practice

Posted Nov 6, 2012

Versatile lineman Kevin Kowalski has been activated from the Cowboys’ PUP list and will return to practice this week. The club will get a roster exemption for at least three weeks before they have to decide to either place him on IR or activate him to the 53-man roster and replace an existing player.

It was hard not to forget about Kowalski during the early part of the season.

While the Cowboys were struggling to find some consistency in the interior offensive line, Kowalski was suffering through an ankle injury that forced him to have surgery during training camp.

Kowalksi missed the entire offseason work, including training camp, where the Cowboys lost Phil Costa and backup center Bill Nagy to injuries, forcing guard David Arkin to switch to center. Arkin has been the backup for all but two games this year.

Costa remains injured with an ankle injury, while Ryan Cook has started the past two weeks.

If healthy, Kowalski could return and replace Arkin as the game-day backup at both guard and center.

“He will practice Wednesday,” head coach Jason Garrett said on Monday. “We have three weeks to make a decision on him. If he has a great week, in theory he could be active for this game this week. But we have three weeks to make that decision.”

Kowalski made the team last year as an undrafted rookie out of Toledo. He played 11 games, filling in at times at both guard and center.
