IRVING, Texas - 
While the second-year back admits a high level of frustration with a sprained foot injury that has kept him out of the last four games and probably this week as well, Murray said he can’t afford to rush back to the field if he’s not fully ready.
“I’m just out there working hard and making sure I don’t take any steps back,” Murray said Wednesday. “We’ve been patient with this thing. We’re trying to make sure once I do get back there I stay out there. I’m feeling good and definitely staying in the right direction.”
Wednesday was another positive step in that direction for Murray, who was able to do more with his rehab, which included some work before practice that included his helmet – a sign that he’s at least getting close to returning to action. Still, the Cowboys listed Murray as “did not participate” for Wednesday’s practice.
Asked if there was a chance he could play in one of the next two games, the competitive spirit in Murray answered the question.
“Yes, there is,” Murray said. “For me, as a competitor there is a chance. Today, this week is the best I’ve felt. This is the best I’ve felt mentality after working out. I’m feeling good. Hopefully this thing continues to get better.”
There’s no doubt Murray has been missed, just by looking at the stat sheet. Despite missing four straight games, and the entire second half in Baltimore, Murray still leads the Cowboys in rushing this year with 330 yards.
Murray was averaging 4.4 yards per carry and had 93 yards in one half against the Ravens before the setback.
“It’s been real tough,” Murray said. “I’m a competitor and definitely want to be out there with my teammates through the good and the bad. Watching from the sidelines has been very difficult.”
