Practice Update: Austin Misses Again; Progress For DE Selvie

Posted Oct 3, 2013

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys were once again without Miles Austin for Thursday’s practice as the wide receiver continues to nurse a strained hamstring.

The club did have George Selvie on the field and it appears he could be getting closer to playing Sunday. The defensive end suffered a concussion in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers. But head coach Jason Garrett said Selvie is making progress this week in his recovery and the Cowboys have certainly not ruled out his chances of playing against the Peyton Manning-led Broncos.

Selvie was wearing his jersey like the rest of his teammates, but did not have his helmet for Thursday’s practice.

If Selvie doesn’t play, the Cowboys would likely hope to call on Edgar Jones, but he didn’t practice much Thursday because of nagging groin injury. Justin Durant also missed some time of practice rehabbing a groin injury.

The Cowboys are hopeful for Selvie to play opposite DeMarcus Ware. If not, Kyle Wilber and Caesar Rayford will likely be called upon to get extended playing time.

Without Austin, the Cowboys will again work Terrance Williams in the mix. Williams caught seven passes for 71 yards last week but had a drop and a critical lost fumble near the goal line. Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley are also expected to get plenty of reps.
