Romo, Griffin Both Stiff-Arm Talk Of Thursday's QB Showdown

Posted Nov 21, 2012

IRVING, Texas – When Robert Griffin was going through the NFL Draft speculations about possibly being No. 1 along with Andrew Luck and a possibly rivalry brewing between the two, he used to say the same mantra:

“I do play against quarterbacks. I play against defenses.”

Griffin used that line again Tuesday in a conference call with the Dallas-Fort Worth media about facing Tony Romo.

“Tony’s been doing it extremely well for a long time,” Griffin said. “He’s a special player, the things he can do with the ball in his hands, whether it’s in rhythm or out of sync and he’s just running around out there. He’s done a good job his whole career. It’ll be fun. But I’ve got to throw that whole cliché out there that I don’t play against Tony. I’ve got to play against that defense.”

On the flip side, Romo also stiff-armed the potential matchup with Griffin when talking to the D.C. media.

“I’m never going to have to throw the ball against him and he’s not going to be throwing the ball against me at all,” Romo said. It’s about their defense. I have to trust my defense, our special teams, to go out and play well. If they do that, then we have a great chance of winning.”

Romo knows a thing or two about winning in November. His record is 21-3 since becoming the starting quarterback in 2006 and he’s 14-0 at home in this month.

Griffin will be the third rookie quarterback to face the Cowboys in three games. Nick Foles replaced an injured Michael Vick with the Eagles on Nov. 11, followed by Cleveland rookie Brandon Weeded last week. Griffin will face the Cowboys twice here in the last six games and there is a chance Foles will play against Dallas on Dec. 2 at Cowboys Stadium, depending on Vick’s health.
