Ware Recalls ‘Scariest Moment’ Before Heroic Return vs. Saints

Posted Nov 6, 2013

At 5:22 p.m., DeMarcus Ware has only one thought racing through his head: Get a stop so we can get off the field.

At 5:24, the Cowboys’ best defensive player is wondering if he’ll ever walk again, much less resume his already-stellar NFL career.

That’s how fast perspective can change in the game of football. One minute you’re chasing LaDainian Tomlinson around, and the next you’re having to wonder if you’re ever going to chase your two-year-old daughter in the backyard.

“That’s the scariest moment I’ve ever had in football,” Ware recalls. “If you’re immobile and can’t move, but you think you’re moving, and all of a sudden you’re getting strapped down and everything around you is quiet and all the guys around you are praying, and now you’ve got your facemask off … it’s a scary feeling.”
