Ware, Witten Both Selected As AP All-Pro Second-Teamers

Posted Jan 12, 2013

For one, his season started out slower than ever but ended with a record-breaking year. For the other, it was his usual dominating start but ended with him limping to the finish line with several injuries.

No matter the journey, both Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware were named All-Pros. The Associated Press picked Witten and Ware to the second-team.

It’s the sixth consecutive All-Pro selection for Ware, who has made it every year since his 2005 rookie season. Witten has been named an AP All-Pro for the third time in his career.

Both players were the only two Pro Bowl selections as well, although Ware will not play in the game after having shoulder surgery on Thursday.

Despite setting an NFL record for most catches in a season by a tight end, Witten’s 110 receptions apparently weren’t good enough for a first-team spot, which went to Atlanta’s Tony Gonzalez, who is also scheduled to start in the Pro Bowl over Witten.

Still, it was a great season for Witten, who suffered a lacerated spleen injury in the first preseason game, which seriously jeopardized the start to the regular season. While Witten played, he wasn’t 100 percent and really didn’t find his groove until the fourth game. This year, Witten not only surpassed Michael Irvin’s franchise record of 750 receptions, but nearly matched Irvin’s single-season record of 111 catches.

For Ware, the season ended with frustration as he battled through elbow, neck, hamstring and shoulder injuries. In the final game against the Redskins, Ware was playing with a harness on his shoulder and an elbow brace and was less than effective. Earlier in the season, Ware recorded at least a half-sack in nine of the first 10 games, including eight straight. But in the final six games, Ware only had 1.5 sacks.

For the entire All-Pro squad:
