Long Snapper Hughlett Released As Roster Trimmed Down To 75

Posted Aug 27, 2012

IRVING, Texas– The Cowboys are officially down to 75 players after releasing rookie long snapper Charley Hughlett Monday afternoon.

That move came after the club waived eight players in the morning and moved three more injured players to either injured reserve or PUP (Physically Unable to Perform).

Hughlett, an undrafted free agent from Central Florida, showed some promise in the preseason and looked to give stable veteran L.P. Ladouceur a run for the job, but the Cowboys obviously decided to stick with their trusty vet who hasn’t had a bad snap since joining the team in 2005.

Earlier in the day, the Cowboys cut eight players, most notably wide receiver Raymond Radway, who began camp as one of the candidates vying for a backup spot. Radway likely would’ve made the 53-man roster last year before suffering a broken leg injury on the final play of the preseason. Radway was healthy this year but couldn’t distinguish himself from the pack of young receivers trying to fill the backup spots.

The other cuts include offensive linemen Levy Adcock and Tyrone Novikoff, cornerback C.J. Wilson, wide receiver David Little, running back Javarris Williams, kicker Delbert Alvarado and tight end Harry Flaherty.

Wide receiver Donavon Kemp (torn ACL) and linebacker Caleb McSurdy (torn Achilles) were both waived/injured and will revert to injured reserve.

Guard/center Kevin Kowalski (ankle) was moved to Reserve PUP and will miss at least the first six games of the season.

The Cowboys will have 75 players on the roster for Wednesday’s preseason finale against the Dolphins, but don’t expect a lot of the starters to play. Coach Jason Garrett said only some of the guys who have been injured, such as center Phil Costa and possibly cornerback Morris Claiborne, will get a few snaps in the game.
