Edgar Jones On Pace To Return From Injury When Eligible

Posted Nov 5, 2013

IRVING, TexasEdgar Jones believes he’ll be able to reward the Cowboys for giving him a chance to return from injured reserve.

Jones, who was placed on IR/designated to return, is already jogging after Oct. 17 sports hernia surgery and thinks he’ll be ready to contribute by season’s end. Jones was active for the first four games before a groin injury kept him out.

“At first we kind of rested on it, but as time went on, it kind of started to get worse,” Jones said. “At the end of the day, I felt like surgery was the best thing for me to do. But I’m definitely fortunate and grateful for how they are allowing me to return back.”

The Cowboys acquired Jones at the end of August from Kansas City via trade to bolster their depth on special teams and the defensive line. Players put on IR/designated to return are eligible to return to practice six weeks later and return to game action eight weeks later, which will be the Cowboys’ Week 15 game against Green Bay.

“We anticipate him being within that medically being ready to go when he’s eligible to come back,” said head coach Jason Garrett.

Jones said his progress will be determined based on how he feels each day. If he’s sore after jogging, the recovery process will be tuned back. If not, it will continue as planned, which will get him back on the field when he’s due back.

He’s also staying in the meetings and taking notes as if he’s playing that week, which helps him stay positive and in tune with the rest of the group.

“As long as I’m feeling good, just keep increasing the work,” Jones said.

He doesn’t feel that will be an issue.

“I’ll definitely be back on the field,” Jones said. “I’m always a positive thinker.”
