Hamstring Injuries Continue; Lee To Get MRI On Neck

Posted Dec 10, 2013

CHICAGO – The Cowboys added injury to insult.

Dallas trailed by double digits when all the injuries began adding up, as Dwayne Harris, Sean Lee and Bruce Carter all got hurt in the third quarter and were out the remainder of the game.

Once again, it was the dreaded hamstring injury piercing through the Cowboys roster.

Harris was questionable entering the game with a hamstring injury and re-injured it after his longest kickoff return of the day for 43 yards. Carter also injured his right hamstring after a tackle in the third quarter.

“He felt good before the game and he moved around well, obviously made the big return,” said head coach Jason Garrett. “It looked like he tweaked it a little bit again. We’ll see how he is the next couple days.”

Lee came into the game with a hamstring injury, but it was a neck injury that took him off the field Monday night. He tried to play through it but eventually had to be replaced for the game, leaving the Cowboys short at the position with DeVonte Holloman and Justin Durant both inactive.

An MRI on Lee’s neck Tuesday will determine whether or not he can resume practicing, but both Carter and Lee remain hopeful they’ll be able to play on a short week Sunday against the Packers.

“The leg is good, it’s the neck,” Lee said. “Hopefully it’s something I can bounce back from. I’ll know a little more (Tuesday).”

Carter will also know more as the week progresses but said he thinks he’ll be fine after some treatment this week after his first hamstring injury to his right leg.

That specific injury continues to hamper the Cowboys, as a re-aggravation of the hamstring injury against the Giants kept Morris Claiborne out of another game. Carter’s not sure why they keep happening, but whether it’s a first-time tweak or a re-aggravation of a previous injury, it’s typically the hamstring keeping Cowboys out of games.

“That’s something that we certainly looked at,” Garrett said. “It’s happened on a few different occasions to guys and has really impacted our football team, so we’ll need to square that away.”

DeMarcus Ware had hamstring issues early on last year, but it’s been a thigh injury that has limited him this season. Ware said he was feeling much better after the Thanksgiving game against the Raiders, but Garrett referenced the leg injury Monday when asked about the pass-rusher.

“He’s playing, but he’s been dealing with that for most of the year,” Garrett said. “It was just one of those deals where he’s got to get himself going and start impacting the game a little more. Sometimes the conditions are tough on a night like this to do that, but we certainly need him down the stretch.”
