Hyperextended Elbow Unlikely To Keep Ware Out Sunday

Posted Dec 13, 2012

IRVING, Texas – Linebacker DeMarcus Ware’s played through a sore shoulder and neck, and now he can add an elbow injury to that mix.

Ware, who missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, said a hyperextended elbow won’t keep him off the field Sunday. He’ll likely wear some sort of protective gear against the Steelers.

“It’s good,” Ware said. “I’ll just wear a little brace in the game and get ready for the game. I’ll be good.”

The pass rusher recorded his 11th sack of the season at a crucial point in the fourth quarter against the Bengals. That late sack in Cincinnati marked the first time he brought down the quarterback since playing Cleveland three weeks prior, when he recorded half a sack. The majority of the Cowboys’ sacks in recent weeks have come courtesy of Anthony Spencer, who has five in his last four games.

Prior to last weekend, Ware went four straight games without a full sack. He’s one of numerous Cowboys defenders playing through pain the last few weeks, as those numbers would indicate.

The majority of Cowboys defenders are dealing with both physical pain from injury and emotional pain from the recent events off the field. Ware fought through shoulder and neck injuries prior to the elbow pain, and he plans on continuing to do so the last few weeks of the regular season.

“We’ve been going through a lot of adversity this season, an up-and-down season, but with the things that happened, it was one of those times we know we’ve just got to know how to take it,” he said. “You never know how to take a loss on a team with the things that happened, but a lot of guys are sticking together, staying strong and getting ready for this weekend. We know we’ve got to still get out there and play and it’s motivating us a little bit more to let us know you never know what can happen in life, and you’ve got to take advantage of the opportunities that you have.”
