McCray Practices For First Time Since Preseason Collision

Posted Sep 10, 2012

IRVING, Texas - Safety Danny McCray returned to practice Monday for the first time since suffering a stinger in the third preseason game, Aug. 25 against the Rams.

McCray collided with safety Gerald Sensabaugh while diving for a ball in the end zone that was tipped in the air by defensive back Morris Claiborne.

The impact looked much worse than a stinger. McCray said his arm went completely numb after the collision, but he was in good spirits after the game when he realized it wasn’t serious or career-threatening.

“It varies from person to person. I’ve had stingers before,” McCray said. “I’ve never had one that bad, so now I feel like I’ve had the worst and I’ve had one of the ones that go away after a couple of plays.”

McCray initially thought he’d be able to return to practice the next week following the injury, but he said it took longer than anticipated to regain the strength in his arm. He also felt pain in his neck, making it difficult to turn his head or lean back.

“I tried to be optimistic about it, it just wasn’t working out,” McCray said. “It was a different part of the body. You don’t want to take chances with your neck and the upper body area. If it was an elbow or something, I’d tape it up.”

McCray, who was a full participant in Monday’s practice, said he’ll be ready for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks. The biggest issue for him Monday was conditioning, after missing two weeks of practice.

“It was a little rough to get back, but physically, everything felt good,” McCray said. “It was a shell day, but we’ll see what happens on Wednesday. All in all, it felt pretty good today.”
