Peete Set To Join DeCamillis On Bears’ Staff As RB Coach

Posted Jan 17, 2013

IRVING, Texas – Former Cowboys running backs coach Skip Peete will take on the same role with the Bears, becoming the second coach in as many days from the 2012 Cowboys staff to land a job in Chicago.

Peete spent the last six seasons in Dallas before getting released of his duties after this season. He’ll rejoin new Bears coach Marc Trestman and former Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis in Chicago.

Peete and Trestman were offensive position coaches together in Oakland from 2001-03. Peete was the Raiders’ running backs coach from 1998-2006, while Trestman coached the quarterbacks and later became offensive coordinator in Oakland.

The Cowboys never had a 1,000-yard rusher during Peete’s time in Dallas, though many of those seasons included injuries in the backfield. Marion Barber broke the 900-yard mark in 2007 and 2009, coming just 25 yards short of 1,000 in 2007.

The Dallas backs did, however, rush for more yards than their opponents in Peete’s first five years as the running backs coach. The rushing numbers dipped dramatically this season, as the Cowboys rushed for only 79.1 yards per game and were outrushed by their opponents by 738 yards.
