Surgery Shouldn't Keep Harris Out Long In Offseason

Posted Jan 10, 2014

IRVING, Texas– Wide receiver Dwayne Harris underwent shoulder surgery and should be good to go when the team reconvenes for offseason workouts.

This is the time of year where most nicked up players get their ailments taken care of. The shoulder injury was just one of a few issues for Harris, who played through a medley of aches, pains and tears, but the scope shouldn’t keep him out long.

After going on the injury report with a hip issue early in the year, Harris said he also was playing through a shoulder injury and tear in his lower abdomen. That was all before he became one of the many Cowboys players to injure his hamstring.

Harris said his hamstring injury was lower down the leg near his knee, which typically takes less time to heal than a higher hamstring pull. But he still re-injured that hamstring against the Bears, forcing Harris to miss Weeks 15 and 16 before returning for the season finale.

Despite all the injuries, Harris still finished in the top three in the league in kick return average (30.6 yards) and punt return average (12.8 yards). He returned a punt for a touchdown and caught nine passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-winner.

The star returner was one of a few offensive players to miss games from injuries. Typically, it was the defensive players going down during the 2013 season.

There will likely be more minor surgeries and clean-ups to come for some of those players. DeMarcus Ware said after the season ended he’d likely get a scope done for his elbow injury, but as of now it doesn’t appear surgery is imminent. With the season just finishing up and a lot of time left in the offseason, that could still change for him and other injured players.
