“There’s no ego there for me,” Witten told reporters. “It’s all about winning and that’s a part of being a leader and a captain, to help other guys play at a high level. There’s no hard feelings from that standpoint.”
Witten, who’s about to turn 31 years old, is no stranger to having younger tight ends on the team. The Cowboys drafted Anthony Fasano in the second round in 2006, Martellus Bennett in the second round in 2008, John Phillips in the sixth round in 2009 and ![]()
Hanna, who got involved late in the season last year, is the only one of those tight ends still on the team. Witten’s coming off one of the best seasons in his career, gathering a career-high 110 catches for 1,039 yards.
