Jenkins Cleared To Practice After Passing Physical; No Fla. Trip

Posted Aug 29, 2012

ARLINGTON, Texas – Don’t rule out Mike Jenkins for the season opener just yet.

Whether or not the veteran cornerback will be ready for the Giants on Sept. 5, Jenkins has at least passed his physical and has been cleared to practice.

Jenkins has missed all of the offseason, training camp and now all four preseason games, including Wednesday’s 30-13 win over the Dolphins, after undergoing rotator cuff surgery in January.

Jenkins was scheduled to visit Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery, in Florida on Thursday but now it appears the cornerback will remain in Dallas.

However, like all injured or new players, Jenkins will have to sit out his three-day waiting period before he can practice. Since the Cowboys were able to turn that information into the league Wednesday night, the three-day period has now begun and will last until Saturday.

With the different schedule, the Cowboys’ main two practice days in preparation for the Giants will be Saturday and Sunday. If Jenkins can practice some this weekend, there is a solid chance he could be used in the season opener.

Whether or not he plays, expect both Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne to start, but Orlando Scandrick and Jenkins could give the Cowboys some much-needed depth in the secondary, especially against Eli Manning and the always-potent Giants offense.
