IRVING, Texas - Starting free safety Ken Hamlin will miss a few weeks with a high ankle sprain, but the Cowboys also got good news in their secondary Wednesday when starting cornerback Mike Jenkins participated in the full practice.
Jenkins sustained a deep biceps contusion in last Sunday's loss to the Packers. He tried to return in the fourth quarter but left again in noticeable pain.
The second-year corner gave reporters a thumbs-up signal before Wednesday's practice, indicating he's OK. Phillips said Monday he was "pretty confident" Jenkins would play this Sunday against the Redskins.
Elsewhere on the roster, rookie kickoff specialist David Buehler missed practice with a toe contusion. Phillips is optimistic Buehler, who's tied for third in the league in touchbacks (17), will be able to kick off Sunday.
Buehler got his toe stepped on while working on the punt team against the Packers. Phillips said he likely would only kick off this week; if not, place kicker Nick Folk will handle those duties for the first time since 2008.
"We think he's going to be all right," Phillips said of Buehler, who attended practice with no noticeable limp.
Return specialist Allen Rossum (hamstring) is expected to miss his fourth consecutive game. Hamlin and right tackle Marc Colombo (leg/ankle) are also out for an extended period.
Phillips said his team must carry on.
"It's not a woe-is-me league," Phillips said. "No other team is certainly going to feel sorry for you. You can't feel sorry for yourself. You've got to go out and play."
