ST. LOUIS - Newly-acquired wide receiver Roy Williams thought he was leaving games like that behind.

Frustrated by a lack of success in Detroit, Williams has said several times this week how excited he was to join a team "with so much talent" as this Cowboys' team.

Obviously, this wasn't the kind of debut Williams had in mind.

"Yeah, I didn't really expect this, but I'm not worried about it," Williams said. "We're a little down right now, but we'll make it back. I'm not too concerned."

Williams said he was limited with his knowledge of the offense, having joined the team Tuesday in a trade with the Lions.

Although he played several offensive snaps, not many passes were thrown in his direction, resulting in zero catches.

"It's frustrating when you feel like you can't help your team like you're used to," Williams said. "But all I can do is go back, take my playbook home every night and keep studying. It's not easy to learn an offense so quick but I don't have a choice."

It wasn't exactly a horrible weekend for Williams, who signed a five-year contract extension Saturday night while in St. Louis.

Including this season, Williams now has a six-year, $47.4 million extension that runs through the 2013 season that includes $27 million in guaranteed money.

Williams will receive all of that $27 million over the next two calendar years, including a $10 million option bonus next March and another $9.5 million the following March.

Since the trade on Tuesday, the Cowboys have been intensely trying to get a deal complete. Not only did they not want to end the season without a new deal, potentially giving Williams a chance to be a free agent, but they wanted to lower the receiver's $3.75 million base salary.

In fact, the Cowboys lowered his base to just $605,000 this season, and since Williams arrived six games into the season, the club is only on the hook for $391,471 for the remainder of this season.

But the big money of the deal certainly kicks in next spring.

However, Williams said he wasn't focused on the new contract at all.

"I'm not thinking about that," Williams said. "It's not about that. It's really not about the money or anything. You don't know how bad I wanted to get out of Detroit. That was the main thing for me. I was so happy to get here that a new contract wasn't my main goal. My goal is to help us win games."

Williams couldn't help much on this day.

He was used mostly as the third- and fourth-receiver behind Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton and even Miles Austin. Williams entered the game on the Cowboys' first drive in the red zone, although the offense ran three straight plays, scoring a touchdown with Marion Barber.

Williams did get one pass thrown his way in the second quarter when Brad Johnson heaved a deep ball towards the goal line, but the pass ended up out of bounds, giving Williams no chance to make the play.
