IRVING, Texas - While debris cleanup and restorative work is being done at Valley Ranch, the Cowboys will practice at Tommy Standridge Stadium in nearby Carrollton.
The 13,000-seat complex, just over five miles from team headquarters, could be the Cowboys' practice home for as long as six months. The Cowboys will have to replace both of their outdoor grass fields because they are littered with bits of glass and other debris from the team's indoor facility, which collapsed in high winds and rain Saturday, seriously injuring four staff members.
Regular Tuesday and Thursday throwing sessions for the skill positions are a part of the team's 10-week off-season program. The Cowboys also have three-day Organized Team Activities planned for four consecutive weeks in late May and early June, and a mini-camp for veterans and rookies June 16-18. Training camp will begin at the end of July inside San Antonio's Alamodome, but work on the Valley Ranch practice fields may not be finished when the team returns.
In the event of rain, the Cowboys will practice indoors at Coppell High School, also a short drive from the club's home base. The Coppell facility is a permanent brick structure housing a 60-yard long football field.
Players and coaches will travel by bus to and from Standridge Stadium, which has an artificial grass turf and is the home field for four local high schools. It was completed in 1963 and underwent a remodeling in 1993. Cowboys off-season practices are closed to the public.
