IRVING, Texas - Although starting center Andre Gurode (sprained knee) has made progress this week, the Cowboys won't have key offensive players Roy Williams (bruised ribs) and Felix Jones (sprained knee) this Sunday at Kansas City.
Gurode is listed as "questionable" after practicing on a limited basis the past two days. He has seemed confident he will start. But Williams and Jones, listed as "doubtful" on Friday, did not make the trip to Kansas City. Starting strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh also was officially declared "out" for this week following thumb surgery.
Williams and Jones didn't practice all week, and head coach Wade Phillips all but ruled them out before Friday's practice. Jones has been sidelined since spraining his PCL Sept. 28 against Carolina. Next week's bye will give Williams, Jones and Sensabaugh two more full weeks to improve.
Jones' absence again means more carries for fellow second-year running back Tashard Choice. Starter Marion Barber (strained quad) had full participation this week and is listed as "probable," but the Cowboys re-signed practice squad running back Chauncey Washington for depth on the active roster.
Pat Watkins will start at strong safety in Sensabaugh's place. Miles Austin is William' expected replacement at receiver.
And if Gurode is unable to play, Cory Procter would start at center.
"He's gotten better and that's a positive sign," Phillips said of Gurode. "He practiced (Thursday) in full pads."
