IRVING, Texas - For the first time since he returned from his six-game suspension, cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones briefly spoke to reporters in the locker room on Thursday regarding his neck injury and the possibility that his season, or even his career, was in jeopardy.
However, despite having a herniated disk in his neck, Jones has returned to practice this week and is expected to play Saturday night against the Ravens.
"It was always a chance the swelling would go down," said Jones, who said he feared for a moment he would not play again because of the neck injury. "Of course, I was. Anytime someone tells you that, you're going to be afraid. Thank God it's not."
Jones, who was suspended by the NFL for six games for his involvement in a fight with his former bodyguard outside of a Dallas hotel, returned for the Dec. 7 game against the Steelers. However, in the first quarter, he suffered a neck injury while trying to recover a fumbled punt. Jones' neck was jammed in the pile, although he returned to finish the game.
"It was a lot of pain, especially after I got hit," Jones said. "I got hit pretty hard."
But it wasn't until the following Tuesday did Jones have an MRI that revealed a herniated disk, something that might have been there before the injury.
"Probably the herniated disk I had . . . I had been complaining about my neck," Jones said. "I could be a possibility that I already had that."
Jones missed last week's game with the Giants, but has returned to practice this week and is expected to play in the defensive sub-packages, and will likely handle the punt return duties again, and possibly kickoff returns as well.
While his off-the-field issues have been well documented, Jones said this recent scare has made him more appreciative of his latest opportunity.
"I've never taken this game for granted," Jones said. "It could be over in a quick second. That's how it is, man. I've got to take advantage of the time I have now."
