IRVING, Texas - A healthy Mike Jenkins started last Friday's 30-10 preseason win over Tennessee. Now it's Orlando Scandrick's turn.

Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Scandrick will start Saturday against San Francisco as the team's right cornerback competition continues.

Phillips has said he intends to provide equal opportunity for his second-year corners. Jenkins and Scandrick rotated with the first-team defense opposite Terence Newman (when healthy) in training camp, aside from the week Jenkins spent nursing an ankle injury.

With Jenkins sidelined, Scandrick started the Aug. 13 preseason opener at Oakland. Jenkins returned for last Friday's win over the Titans and had two tackles and a pass breakup in the first half.

Jenkins also tweaked his ankle in the game, but he practiced Monday and is expected to play.

No matter who wins the job, Scandrick will continue moving into the slot in dime situations - a niche he created and thrived as a fifth-round draft pick last season.

Scandrick has said repeatedly that in his mind he's competing against himself this summer, not against Jenkins. Ultimately the two are teammates and friends.

"I'm just going to come out here and compete and do what I've been doing," he said. "Just making plays, showing up and doing all the small things."

Injury Update: Anderson Getting Closer

Phillips said starting fullback Deon Anderson is "progressing well" from arthroscopic knee surgery and is aiming to return the week of the Sept. 13 opener at Tampa Bay.

Also missing Monday's practice were defensive end Marcus Dixon (strained groin), linebacker Justin Rogers (knee tendinitis) and quarterback Stephen McGee (sprained knee). Rogers and McGee were injured against the Titans. Rookie linebacker Stephen Hodge, who's returning from off-season knee surgery, did not practice as a precaution.

Phillips said Dixon and McGee likely wouldn't play against San Francisco, and Rogers is considered questionable. Phillips "doesn't know for sure" if McGee will be ready for the Sept. 4 preseason finale at Minnesota, a prime opportunity for reps.

Rookies Brandon Williams (torn ACL) and Robert Brewster (torn pectoral muscle) also missed practice.
