ARLINGTON, Texas - On June 6, George Strait and Reba McEntire dropped the curtain on Cowboys Stadium.
On Aug. 19, Paul McCartney will let it be.
AEG Live and Live Nation, in cooperation with Marshall Arts, announced Tuesday that McCartney will perform in concert at the Cowboys' $1.1 billion new stadium next month - the musical icon's first Dallas-area concert since 2005 and the only Texas performance of his current series of 2009 North American dates.
Tickets go on sale Monday, July 20 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
The Cowboys Stadium show will feature classics from McCartney's extensive catalog, including Beatles, Wings and solo career hits as well as selections from his most recent album Electric Arguments, released under his alias The Fireman.
Cowboys Stadium has held two concerts since its June inception - the Strait-McEntire show and the Jonas Brothers on June 20. July events include the CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer quarterfinal round (July 19) and a Chelsea-Club America match (July 26) as part of the inaugural World Football Challenge.
In the coming months and years, the stadium will host some a variety of preeminent national sporting events: Super Bowl XLV, the 2009 Big XII Football Championship and Cotton Bowl, the 2010 NBA All-Star Game and the 2014 men's Final Four.
For nearly 50 years, McCartney's unforgettable hits have appealed to sports and music fans alike.
On the heels of his three-date, sold-out run at New York's Citi Field in July, the Aug. 19 North Texas performance will be among McCartney's first U.S. appearances since headlining this year's Coachella festival, as well as the same weekend's record-breaking opening of the Joint in Las Vegas. McCartney's additional upcoming North American concert dates include two shows at Boston's Fenway Park along with performances at Atlanta's Piedmont Park, FedEx Field in Landover, Md. and Halifax Commons in Halifax, NS.
American Express® Cardmembers can purchase advance tickets beginning Monday, July 13 at 10 a.m. through Sunday, July 19 at 10 p.m. Preferred seating is available to Gold Card, Platinum Card® and Centurion® members.
