IRVING, Texas - Without a playing a game, the Cowboys made up some ground in the NFC East on Sunday.

Not only that, but maybe they have even more confidence about the five remaining division games, after watching all three rivals go down Sunday.

And for the Eagles, Giants and Redskins, all three were somewhat humiliating.

While the Giants lost in a battle of undefeated teams to the Saints, they were shellacked by Drew Brees' New Orleans bunch, 48-27 at the Superdome.

The Redskins certainly didn't cool off the hot seat for head coach Jim Zorn. Washington, playing its sixth consecutive game against a winless team, lost at home to the Chiefs Sunday, 14-6, giving Kansas City head coach Todd Haley his first career win.

So far this year, Washington has also provided the first wins of the season for the Panthers and Lions, who went 0-16 in 2008 and had lost 19 straight games, dating back to the 2007 season.

While losing at home to the Chiefs was bad for Washington, it's not much better for Philadelphia. The Eagles lost 13-9 to the Raiders, giving Oakland its second win of the season.

To sum up the NFC East games on Sunday, the Eagles and Redskins lost to two of the worst teams in the NFL and failed to score a touchdown, while the Giants lost their first game, but nearly gave up 50 points in the process.

So whether Cowboys spent their Sunday with their feet up and either watching this crazy mess, or getting far enough away from football as possible, they will return to work on Monday in better shape than last week. The Cowboys will be getting ready for the Oct. 24 game against the Falcons at Cowboys Stadium, where the team hasn't played in nearly a month (Sept. 28).

Looking at the division standings, the Giants still hold a comfortable lead, sitting at 5-1 and having already beaten the Redskins and Cowboys. The Eagles and Cowboys are now at 3-2 and still have division games to play. Washington also has five games remaining in the division, but at 2-4, they're three full games behind the Giants, who beat them in Week One.

But more than just the division race, it appears the battle for the final two Wild Card spots will be tight as well. Through six weeks of the regular season, 10 of the 16 NFC teams are 3-2 or better, including a pair of undefeated teams in Minnesota (6-0) and New Orleans (5-0).
