IRVING, Texas - One year and 15 games into his Cowboys career, wide receiver Roy Williams' production isn't up to his own standards.
In 14 appearances since arriving last October at the trade deadline - he missed this year's pre-bye win over Kansas City with sore ribs - Williams has 30 catches for 412 yards and two touchdowns.
"It's okay - I mean, very average, if not below average in my opinion," he said Thursday.
Overall, Williams is not disappointed with himself, though, because he says he's doing what he's asked to do - run the right routes, block downfield and make the most of his opportunities. The Cowboys' coaches and team owner Jerry Jones agree.
Having rested his ribs for an extra week, Williams expects to play Sunday against Atlanta despite some residual soreness. He has caught more than three passes in a game only once (four for 75 yards Sept. 28 against Carolina) and is aiming for a breakout game soon.
Or as he calls it, "dial 9-1-1" - a clever abbreviation for Tony Romo (No. 9) to Williams (No. 11).
"My thing is I do what I'm supposed to do," Williams said. "I've been patient this year, one of these days - you hope that you don't have to do it - but sometimes you've got to dial 9-1-1 and I'm waiting on 9-1-1 to be dialed up.
"It's just maybe we can connect six-to-seven times in a game or so, maybe dominate a game every once in a while. I'm just going to come in and do what I do, and that's try to be the all-around best player on the football field Sunday - block, catch, run, do everything I'm supposed to do."
Romo believes that breakout game is coming soon.
"I know he's been banged up a little bit but I think he's coming back pretty good," Romo said. "He's done some really good things and we've got a good rapport. And it's only a matter of time before stuff ends up happening."
